Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow, or qi, and restore balance. These points are located along pathways called meridians, which connect organs and systems within the body. Acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of conditions. It works by promoting natural healing processes, improving circulation, and influencing the nervous system.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) is a major component of Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses natural substances—primarily plants, but also minerals and animal products—to restore balance and treat illness. Formulas are typically tailored to each individual, combining multiple herbs to enhance therapeutic effects and minimize side effects. These remedies are used to address a wide range of conditions, from digestive and respiratory issues to stress and chronic pain. The practice is based on TCM principles such as yin-yang balance, qi flow, and the health of the organ systems.
Nutritional Counseling
Nutritional counseling is a personalized approach to health that focuses on the relationship between diet and overall well-being. It involves assessing an individual’s dietary habits, health status, and lifestyle to develop tailored nutrition plans that support specific health goals, such as weight management, improved energy, or managing chronic conditions. Counselors educate and guide clients on making healthier food choices, improving eating behaviors, and creating sustainable habits that promote long-term wellness.
Electro-Acupuncture
Electro-acupuncture is a modern variation of traditional acupuncture that involves applying a mild electrical current to acupuncture needles after they are inserted into the skin. The electrical stimulation enhances the effects of the treatment by providing continuous and controlled stimulation to specific points on the body. It is often used to treat pain, neurological disorders, muscle spasms, and inflammation. Electro-acupuncture is believed to increase the flow of qi and blood, promote healing, and stimulate the nervous system more effectively than manual needle manipulation alone.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that involves the burning of dried mugwort (moxa) near or on specific acupuncture points to stimulate healing and promote the flow of qi and blood. The heat generated by the burning moxa is believed to penetrate deeply into the body, helping to warm the meridians, dispel cold and dampness, and strengthen the immune system. Moxibustion is commonly used to treat conditions such as pain, digestive issues, fatigue, and menstrual disorders, and is often combined with acupuncture for enhanced therapeutic effect.
Cupping
Cupping is a traditional therapy used in Chinese medicine that involves placing suction cups on the skin to stimulate blood flow, release tension, and promote healing. The suction is created using heat or a mechanical pump, drawing the skin slightly upward into the cup. This process can improve circulation, remove stagnation of qi and blood, and help the body eliminate toxins. Cupping is often used to relieve muscle pain, reduce inflammation, and support recovery from colds or respiratory issues. Temporary circular marks may appear on the skin as a normal part of the treatment.
Gua Sha
Gua sha is a traditional Chinese healing technique that involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool, typically made of jade or stone, to stimulate circulation and promote healing. The practice is used to release muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and improve the flow of qi and blood in the body. Gua sha is commonly applied to the back, neck, shoulders, or face, and may leave temporary red or purple marks known as “sha,” which indicate the release of stagnation. It is often used to treat pain, headaches, colds, and stress-related tension.
